Some people run for medals, others run for smiles.
Around 3,000 runners came together last August 21, 2016 to run 5K, 10K, or half a marathon at 21K. This run is an annual fundraising event for the benefit of Virlanie Foundation, thanks to the initiative of long-time partner Sofitel Manila. Through the support of event partner RunRio, this run was a great reminder that events can be fun and have positive social impact at the same time.
Kuya Dominique Lemay, president and founder of Virlanie Foundation, was happy to be running alongside the staff and children for the 5k leg. Around the area of CCP was a Craft a Smile booth as well, where all the hand-made products of Virlanie partner mothers were displayed and sold to the delight of the runners. Before the event day ended, Deputy Executive Director Ms. Arlyne Fernandez expressed the Foundation’s gratitude for all the runners that came out, and for the unrelenting support of Sofitel Manila.
The event closed with a performance from the Masaya Choir, made up of children from Virlanie’s Residential and Outreach programs. To all our friends from Runrio and Sofitel Manila, especially to Mr. Adam Laker and Ms. Myx Ferrer for the opportunity, and to each and every runner —
thank you for running for smiles!
