ODC Bacolod children enjoyed newly implemented activities

Since its launching of services in March 2018, the Open Day Center (ODC) in Bacolod is growing fast and reaches to more and more children of Bacolod City. Today, the ODC team works with a total of 68 vulnerable children.

Not only does the Center provides social, educational and health services, it also offers increasing number of recreational and pedagogical activities to the children.

Beside the center’s weekly activities like capoeira and basketball trainings led by volunteers, the children also participate in diverse one-time special activities organized in coordination with external partners.

On May 11, a singing contest in our Open Day Center brought to light joy and talent of 15 participants.

During one special activity on May 18, 26 children watched “Dangal” , an Indian movie and true-to-life story of Mahavir Singh and his two daughters, Geeta and Babita Phogat. The film traces the inspirational journey of a father who trains his daughters to become world class wrestlers.

Our children were inspired by one of the female heroes winning the Olympics.

After the screening, the ODC community started applying this inspiration to their daily challenges. The discussion was open to life goals setting, focusing on plans, hard-work, self-confidence and determination.
