Twenty-two mothers from Parola, Bagong Silangan and Quiapo, along with Virlanie Community Pillar staff, were trained by Consuelo Zobel Alger Foundation (CF), held at Alta D’ Tagaytay Hotel last September 23-26, 2019.
The training focused on Family Strengthening, it is CF’s community-based intervention empowering family members to create a safe and nurturing environment that will prevent and protect them from abuse, neglect, and exploitation. Through Family Strengthening, CF aims to:
1. Enhance the capacities of family members to uphold the rights of a child
2. Strengthen family relationships
3. Improve access to basic services and programs through referrals and linkages
4. Enable families to prevent and respond to abuse, neglect, and exploitation.
“The idea of this is to give knowledge to these mothers about Family Strengthening and after this training, we encourage them to become the facilitator of their own community,” Paulo Eugenio, CF Programs Officer, shared.
During the description of assessment form, mothers from different communities shared their situation in their community.
“By this training on Family strengthening, I gained more knowledge on positive discipline and how to create strong bond among my children. Thank you, Consuelo for this experience,” Mary Ann, mother beneficiary from Parola, shared.
“This kind of training is what the mothers need, the need to know well how to embrace their community and to give service for those families and communities who are struggling, too. We thank you for this, Consuelo,” Emma Solasco, Community Pillar Manager, shared.
To give more projects and trainings to Virlanie’s staff and beneficiaries is the next plan of CF on year 2020.
Consuelo is a US non-profit, private operating Foundation that catalyzes community-based approaches to promote the well-being of at-risk children and their families, and to prevent and treat their abuse, neglect and exploitation in the Philippines and Hawaii.
Consuelo initially supported Virlanie’s Street Pillar to help the children and youth to go back into formal school. An additional component of Consuelo’s support is providing trainings for the staff and mothers.
