MASAYAng Summer Camp 2021

Summer Camp is one of the things that the children look forward to every year before the pandemic struck. Participating in a Summer Camp is an opportunity for the kids to bond, learn leadership, and express themselves in different ways.

The MASAYAng Summer Camp 2021 event was inspired by the camping activity that usually takes place by the beach or in a forest. The main goal of this camp is to establish leadership, teamwork, and ways to take care of their mental health amidst the pandemic.

The camp was themed: “Tahanang Masaya: Sama-samang nagkakaisa, pagharap sa pandemya, kalusugang pangkaisipan ng mga bata ang inuuna.” (A Happy Home: Together, in dealing with the pandemic, putting the children’s mental health first)

The current situation cannot hinder us to offer the best for the kids, so even though we could not bring the children to those places, as their safety is our topmost priority, we brought the experience to Masaya Residential Home. Yes! The children experienced sleeping outdoors in camping tents.

The campers were grouped into four teams: Task Force, Medical Team, Farmers Team, and Happy Family.

The activities in the event include banner making, camp decorating, bracelet making, amazing race, cheering presentation, bonfire, and the superhero runway show where they dressed as our modern heroes, the frontliners, and other essential workers who definitely have a big contribution to our lives.

The kids also had a very meaningful session with our very own ate Ann, Psychology Lead, and ate Jessica, our Independent Living Coordinator. They talked about the importance of mental health during this time of the pandemic.

After the shows and activities, the children enjoyed swimming and splashing in inflatable pools.

What a very fun and meaningful weekend indeed!

“We want them to remember this moment to share with other people even they grow old. It is also a creative way to teach them values since children are curious and love to explore their way to learn things.” Said ate Ann, Masaya Home’s Social Worker.

Truly, this event would not be possible without the help of our dedicated staff who facilitated the activities and guided the kids. We would also like to extend our gratitude to the donors, especially the generous Masaya Home neighbors who sponsored the children’s meals.

We are hoping that this pandemic will soon be over so we could all resume our regular lives, and so we could all experience the adventures that are waiting for us!
