According to a study by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), 43.3 million (or 40%) of the 108.4 million people who will have been forcefully relocated by the end of 2022 are children under the age of 18. In line with the study, Virlanie Foundation participated the UNHCR World Refugee Day initiatives held at the University of the Philippines with the theme “Hope Away from Home,

In support of World Refugee Day, the Virlanie Foundation Communications Department Team members saw the film “Quezon’s Game” during the first day of the UNHCR Film Festival. The film’s portrayal of historical events resonates with the current global refugee crisis, encouraging audiences to reflect on the shared human experience and the importance of extending assistance to those forced to leave their homes

On the other hand, The UNHCR World Refugee Day Forum serves as a pivotal platform for diverse actors to convene and address the multifaceted challenges faced by forcibly displaced and stateless persons. Through its participation, Virlanie Foundation aimed to learn from the panelists’ expertise, experiences, and innovative approaches to applying to its own advocacy of marginalized children effectively.

Recognizing the significance of the UNHCR World Refugee Day Film Festival and Forum, Virlanie Foundation wholeheartedly engaged in the event, reflecting its dedication to empowering and improving the lives of marginalized populations, especially forcibly displaced and stateless children. Through its continued efforts, Virlanie Foundation stands as a champion for children’s rights. It remains committed to being united with UNHCR with creating a more inclusive and compassionate society that embraces and supports children refugees and their contributions.
