It was a festive moment for Virlanie beneficiaries as they celebrated “Buwan ng ABAKADA” in celebration of Month of the Philippine Language last September 9, 2019, Saturday in the Magellan Learning Center (MLC), Virlanie Foundation, Inc., Head Office.
The goal of the event is to promote the use of the Filipino language and “a best opportunity for our Virlanie beneficiaries to improve on their reading comprehension and phonetic skills,” said Faidah Cayongcat, Virlanie’s Education Program Manager.
The program started with an opening remark by Thomas Mouliac, Virlanie’s Executive Director. “This activity is very important because this will help you understand your culture and be proud of your Filipino identity,” said Mouliac. Dominique Lemay, Founder and Chairman Emeritus of Virlanie, was also present to tell the beneficiaries that he is happy to see everyone again together for a learning activity.
Virlanie children from Marco Polo Care Center (MPCC) and Babies and Toddlers Home (BTH), performed to hype the crowd with a song number and a short Filipino skit. The number was facilitated by MLC Teacher, Czarina Canlas.
A series of games were conducted in relation to the objective of the program, which is to increase their knowledge and put value in the use of Filipino language. The children were divided into 6 groups. The games revolved around Philippine trivia and general knowledge. Among these are: Completing the lyrics of Lupang Hinirang (or the Philippine National Anthem), Puzzle Game and Guess the Word. These games aim to improve their listening, reading comprehension and social skills.
Awarding ceremony followed to give credits to each team who all worked hard in overcoming the challenges of the activities.
