The Community Learning Hub officially opened its doors in Bagong Silangan, Quezon City, on November 18, 2023. This achievement is the result of a collaborative effort with Zone V Camera Club, PLDT, and the local government unit of Bagong Silangan.
The Learning Hub posses state-of-the-art facilities, including ten (10) units of desktop computers and licensed software. It aims to provide free access to Virlanie beneficiaries for their educational needs, research projects, and other learning opportunities, particularly for those with limited or no internet access at home. The initiative focuses on positively impacting 250 learners aged 10 to 22 and mothers engaged in Virlanie’s Community Livelihood Project to boast their skills in marketing products, to increase their income, and to ensure that everyone has equal opportunities for education and growth.
Ms. Arlyne Fernandez, Executive Director of Virlanie, explains that “In Virlanie Foundation, we firmly believe that breaking the cycle of poverty is achievable through education. Sending children to school can make a significant difference and the Learning Hub will play a crucial role in this endeavor, assisting children in completing their homework, conducting research, and effectively addressing their educational needs.”
All computers are connected to PLDT’s Home Fiber, with speed reaching to 830Mbps based on the speed test performed on one of the computer stations. PLDT will sponsor the 1Gbps Home Fiber connection in this Learning Hub for three years.
