The Rising Youth elects its new set of officers for 2019

The Rising Youth (TRY), Virlanie’s young adult organization, held an induction ceremony for their newly-elected officers last March 31, 2019. The ceremony, which was held at the SiBuHi area from 9 am until 12 noon, was attended by all the young adults of Ella Yallah, Elizabeth, Masaya, and Tanglaw Homes. House parents, teachers, and volunteers were also invited to partake in the event.

TRY is Virlanie’s youth-led organization composed of young adults from Community, Street, and Residential pillars. It aims to provide venue for the young adults to develop and apply leadership skills, learn camaraderie, and share acquired knowledge to other children and young adults.

According to Jessica Lagatic, Virlanie’s Independent Living Program (ILP) Coordinator, the main purpose of the induction ceremony was to inform the participating homes of the intended activities and plan of actions of the new set of officers. “Yung pinaka-purpose talaga ng induction ceremony is for the officers to present their platforms, magbigay ng testimonies at promises nila. Para malaman din ng ibang young adults kung ano pwede nila i-look forward this year (The actual purpose of the induction ceremony is for the officers to present their platforms, and provide their testimonies and promises so that the other young adults will have something to look forward to this year),” Jessica explained.

Magtutulungan kami para magawa namin lahat ng plano namin this year (I’m happy because I get to help myself become more mature and improve as a leader. As the Vice President of TRY, I promise to do my best in fulfilling my duties and assisting my fellow members with their tasks. We will be closely working together to accomplish all of our plans for this year),” said Biboy.

For this year, the TRY officers will continue to focus on raising funds for their activities. Among the income-generating projects that they will be conducting are the trading of recyclable items, tutorial services, film showing, summer camp, and another open-mic night and café (Read: Sarap Cafeeling: the coffee shop fundraising event by The Rising Youth).
