23 July 2014 — Virlanie Foundation celebrated Nutrition Month with “KalamidadPaghandaan, Gutom at MalnutrisyonAgapan” as this year’s theme.
Organized by the Magellan Learning Center, the event aimed to promote awareness among children about the importance of good nutrition as an essential component to good health.
The event featured a number of activities. A Slogan Making Contest showcased the creativity of the kids by letting them create a poster about their own interpretation of the theme. For the Children’s presentation, groups of kids from different homes performed to their own beat making the event more colorful. There was also a fun game about the go, grow, glow food groupings. This game aimed to test the children’s knowledge regarding the food group and at the same time instill to them the importance of having a balanced diet.
The kids also enjoyed the fruits and vegetable puzzles. It tested the teamwork, cooperation and imagination of the kids. Lastly, there was an activity about the proper food choices. The game’s all about challenging the kids if they will make the right choices when it comes to the right food. On the other side, it was also meant to correct the bad eating habits of the kids at their age.
As the program came to an end, Ms. Emily Malibago, MLC Coordinator, said that “I’m happy that the program turned out to be successful and fun. The kids were really active and happy and I hope in the next nutrition month, we can also expect their active participation because after all, we’re all doing this for them.”
