The Virlanie Foundation has taken an innovative step towards fostering awareness and safety among women and children living in street situations in the slums of Tondo, Manila. Through its Virlanie Street Program, the Foundation organized a parenting seminar regarding Online Sexual Abuse and Exploitation of Children (OSAEC), aiming to educate and protect the community’s most vulnerable members from the perils of the digital world.
The primary objective of the seminar was to equip their beneficiaries’ parents and guardians with essential information about cybercrime and online security. Virlanie invited Mr. Ofelo H Larracochea, the Child and Women Protection Manager of a partner agency, to be the guest speaker; he discussed a comprehensive curriculum covering various topics, including social media safety, online scams and phishing, and cyber-bullying and harassment. The topic was engaging and informative. By providing them with the necessary tools and knowledge, the Street Program fosters a safer and more informed community, paving the way for brighter futures and expanded opportunities; the participants are now empowered to navigate the digital world more safely and confidently, thus reducing their vulnerability to potential harm.
This was made possible through the help of Ville de Geneve and Alstom.
With these initiatives, the Virlanie Foundation continues to champion the well-being and upliftment of children, working towards a more secure and inclusive society. Fulfilling the basic needs and rights of the most marginalized populations is the first step and essential frame for their future inclusion in society.
