Eight Children in Conflict with the Law (CICL) from our Social Development Center (SDC) finished their studies through the Alternative Learning System Acceleration and Equivalency (ALS A&E) Test of the Department of Education in Bacolod City last July 6.
The moving-up ceremony of the ALS passers was held at STI West Negros University and was followed by the honoring of graduates back at SDC. The ceremony was attended by Vice Mayor Hon. El Cid M. Familiaran, Councilor Hon. Bartolome N. Orola, Captain Juhn Orola of Brgy. 26, Department of Social Services and Development head Pacita Tero, Dr. Janalyn B. Navarro and Dr. Gregorio C. Mayoni, Jr. of DepEd Bacolod, SDC and the Virlanie team.
SDC attained a 100% passing rate for the March 2018 A&E test thanks to the tireless efforts of ALS teacher, Lea Jamili Deocampo, who conducts one-on-one tutorials for SDC children. In an interview with The Daily Guardian, Teacher Lea shared how she motivated the children to finish their studies.
“So I had to motivate them and tell them that education is important. They will have the people’s respect and will be empowered to reach for their dreams,” Deocampo said. In the said interview, she also added that some of the children even want to become policemen or soldiers in the future.
