Giving Back The Smile to Street Children

Our Programs

Support Services

These services help all the children in our Residential Program and some of those in the Outreach Programs. The Support Services help them with their academics, psychological and emotional well-being, and their personal development. These complement what the Homes are giving the children.

MAGELLAN LEARNING CENTER

MAGELLAN LEARNING CENTER

MAGELLAN LEARNING CENTER

Virlanie Foundation sees education as one of the key factors in child development. Therefore, the team of educators at the Magellan Learning Center gives tutorials (Mathematics, English, Physics, etc.) and other supplementary lessons (Mental Mathematics, Computer Lessons, etc.) in order to help the children overcome their difficulties in school. This is crucial, especially for the children who have never been in a classroom. The team reinforces the children's education level and helps them build their self-confidence so that they can prepare to face the challenges of being a student.

The children below 6 years old are prepared to go to primary school. They learn their alphabet, counting, and how to write their names. Since its creation in 2002, the learning center has been managed by Filipino staff members who are familiar with the country’s educational system.

Beneficiaries in 2013: 186 children

PSYCHOLOGICAL SERVICES PROGRAM

TThe program aims to take care of the mental, emotional and psycho-social difficulties of the children living in the Virlanie Homes. Responding to these psychological and emotional needs, the Foundation gives the children hope for a brighter future.

The team works with a 4 step process:

Discovery. Identification of the psychological needs of the child; understanding his past.
Design. Formulation of a treatment plan (individual counseling, play therapy, etc.) and communication of a positive image of his or her future to allow the child to discover new self-confidence and help him look forward to a brighter future.
Delivery. Make the child aware of his responsibilities, encourage him to continue with his classes, and develop his capacity to envision and create the results he desires.
Sustainability. Conduct follow-up sessions to monitor the child's behavioral progress and support him in building his new life.
