In the Philippines, 31.4% of the children live below the poverty line. Some 246,000 children in street situation are believed to be roaming around the streets of major urban centers. These children and youth are likely to drop out early from school and to get engaged in high risk activities.

The Mobile Unit provide them with social and health care, educational services, administrative, and legal support. Fulfilling the basic needs and rights of the most marginalized populations is the first step and essential frame of their future inclusion to society.

Street Program

Virlanie’s action and history starts in the streets where we put our efforts in protecting and educating the most vulnerable children, youth and families in order to include them to the society and eradicate intergenerational poverty.

The Mobile Unit

The Mobile Unit (MU), our street-based education program, promotes inclusion of street children and families through education. The WAYS (Walk your way to school) project prepares children to enter, resume or pursue formal or informal schooling or Alternative Learning System through primary education, administrative support and educational assistance. Children, youth and families are also given access to their basic rights such as healthcare, food, water and shelter. The MU supports street families and youth to become economically self-sufficient through livelihood training and socially functioning through children, youth and family case management.
